Organic skin care regime – Beautiful, healthy skin
Organic skin care regime – A natural and effective way for getting your skin feeling and looking radiant.
Organic and natural skin care products work with your skin to enhance its regenerative and healing properties. They are also non-toxic, free of any harsh chemicals and are pesticide free, which means they are better for your body and the environment.
Your skin reflects how well you look after yourself, how healthy you are on the inside. Skin can tell the world your age and the state of your emotional and physical well-being.Environment and many other factors also attribute to how well or not so well your skin looks and feels, so it is important to take good care of your skin by setting yourself a daily skin care regime.
Eating well is vital to maintaining ultimate skin fitness. Be sure to include plenty of fresh organic fruit and vegetables in your diet, drink plenty of filtered water, enjoy fresh air, daily exercise and always wear a wide-brimmed hat when you are out in the sun. Of course not smoking and limiting alcohol to special occasions all contribute to healthier, happier, well-being and promotes youthful, glowing skin.
To combat the toxins we expose our skin to every day and to assist in its natural functioning and maintain it in good condition, it is important to stick to an effective organic skincare regimen
A good, effective, simple organic skin care regime.
Daily 1. Cleanse – Morning & Night
Cleansing is the most important step in looking after your skin, regardless of whether you wear natural makeup or not, so don’t ever leave this step out. Cleansing twice a day is necessary to remove grime, excess oil, and makeup. Use a good quality organic facial cleanser and avoid soap.
Body soaps are generally too harsh for the delicate facial skin and will strip it of its natural oils, causing reactions including dryness and blemishes.
A good quality organic cleanser will help clear away all impurities without drying or irritating the skin. Most cleansers need to be rinsed off the face with water – always read the directions. Read our post on the attributes of a well-formulated organic face cleanser.
2. Tone – Morning & Night, throughout the day if required.
Organic skin toners/hydrating mists help dry skin stay moisturized, or help oily skin stay balanced. An organic toner also prepares the skin for moisturizing. After cleansing let the skin stay moist – this helps the toner penetrate deeper. Similarly, don’t rinse or dry the face after using the toner – the moisturizer in the next step will do its job a lot better when applied to the moist skin.
Toners are especially helpful for blemished prone skin, as they will remove any dirt that was missed by the cleanser, balance the oil production, and help to soothe and heal.
For dry skin, toners are a must, as they can deeply hydrate, and assist in locking in moisture. Toners can also be used while traveling, or if you spend long periods in air-conditioned or harsh environments.
Organic hydrating mists are beautiful products to use, hydrating, cooling, refreshing with delicious essential oil scents.
Toning remains one of our favourite beauty rituals, and it’s one of our best-kept secrets to achieving glowing skin. Read about our favourite toner reviews HERE.
3. Moisturize – Morning and Night.
Moisturizing protects the skin, replenishing lost moisture from the exterior environment – wind, sun, cold, or dry conditions. For dry skin, intensive moisturizers are required to keep it supple and elastic.
For oilier skin, only a light moisturizer is needed, otherwise, the pores can become clogged. Always rinse hands before applying anything to your face. Do not rub the skin vigorously – instead very gently pat the cream (or oil) onto your face with your fingertips, then gently wipe it across your skin to ensure even absorption.
Day moisturizers act as a barrier between our skin and the environment providing important hydration and protection from the elements.
At night while we sleep, our skin naturally rejuvenates itself and benefits from the support of a suitable organic moisturizer which can enhance that process. With a day and night moisturizer, you will find a difference in texture, weight, look and ingredient concentration. You can also use a facial oil as a moisturizer.
4.1-2 times a week exfoliate.
To assist the skin in its natural cycle of removing dead skin cells, an organic exfoliant, organic scrub or an organic gentle face polish should be used regularly – once or twice a week after cleansing. Don’t use a body scrub, as it will be much too harsh on the delicate facial skin.
Using an organic exfoliant prior to your organic mask treatment prepares the skin and enhances the performance of your mask product. Gently press and dab it all over your face for at least 10 seconds, but do not apply any extra pressure on your skin – then rinse and continue your usual daily routine.
5. Treatment Serums, treatment facial oils, and Elixers.
Serums are thinner and lighter than moisturizers and can have a great variety of functions. They contain active ingredients that you want to penetrate as deeply as possible into your skin. For this reason, you always apply serum directly to your skin after cleansing and/or toning and before your moisturizer and sun protection. Serums can be used both morning and night. They do not replace your moisturizer but can boost the hydrating effects of your moisturizer.
6. Facial Mask Treatment.
An organic facial mask removes toxins and impurities from your skin and to achieve a refreshed complexion. An organic mask treatment should be performed at least once a fortnight to achieve a refreshed complexion, or up to twice a week if you have the time or inclination.
Some masks are wet, like mud, and need no preparation except for a clean face. Many natural clay masks, however, come in their raw, dry form, and need to be mixed before application. If you have pure spring water, floral water or pure carrier oil (jojoba, avocado, rice bran) available, use this to prepare the mask in a small bowl.
A facial brush (artist brush) is helpful or uses your fingers to apply the mask. Gently remove the mask with warm water, and natural face cloth and follow with your toner and moisturizer.
7. Eye Treatment.
The skin surrounding the eye has a fine texture and cannot support heavy face creams. Organic eye formulations focus especially on the eye area utilizing gentle, effective ingredients. Organic eye creams should only be applied to the orbital bone (the eye socket around the eye).
8. Flexibility with your organic skin care regime.
Your organic skin care regime needs to be changed seasonally and also in response to climate changes. If you’re in a dry, cold climate you’ll obviously need extra hydration. In Summer you need to look for organic skin care products that are protective and healing, especially if you’ve been out in the sun during the day. Always apply to your skin after your organic moisturizer a natural foundation that offers sun protection.
It’s important to adjust your organic skin care products and organic skin care regime accordingly, rather than just continuing to use the same products throughout the year. It’s really important to tune in to what your skin is dictating.
Just be aware that when it comes to caring for your skin, a flexible approach is always best. Your body is constantly changing, and so your organic skin care regime may need to be adjusted accordingly to provide the best nutrients and ingredients for your skin at any given time.
