The easiest way to get your 5 servings of fruits and vegetables into your diet is by putting these into your green smoothie.Smoothies provide a balanced meal of your veggie and fruit daily recommendations, with loads of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.When blended well, most of the cells in the greens and fruits are ruptured, making the valuable nutrients easy for the body to assimilate.

What is in a Green Smoothie?

Green smoothies are easy to make and quick to clean up after. A perfect smoothie mix should contain a good source of protein, good fats, and low GI carbohydrates.
Good sources of protein can be a protein supplement ( we like hemp protein) or some raw nuts and seeds. Add 1-2 serves of low GI fruits like berries, citrus fruits, apples or half of a banana, and a sprinkle of Chia seeds or Flaxseeds for those good fats.
For the liquid component of your smoothie, use clean water, coconut water, kefir, or nut milk for a gut-friendly blend. Kefir is low GI and is a great source of friendly probiotic bacteria.
Now for the best ingredients; add your leafy greens, like spinach and kale. These are a great source of alkalizing chlorophyll, minerals, and amino acids.
You can also add coconut oil, super green powders, goji berries, cacao and even bee pollen which are also great for your immune system.
The best way is to make your own home-made smoothies; you have control on what ingredients to use and you can use organic or local supplied fruit and veggies.
Green smoothies will stay fresh in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours, but you will lose some of the nutrients as it sits in the fridge. Some people make up a big batch of smoothie and drink it over 2 to 3 days. Personally, we like to have our smoothies fresh.

We love using Moringa Powder as the main ingredient in our green smoothie. Moringa hailed as a superfood, has a rich nutritional profile, loaded with vitamins, minerals, essential amino acids, and more.
Moringa is rich in antioxidants, including vitamin C, beta-carotene, quercetin, and chlorogenic acid. Moringa is an excellent ingredient to put into your green smoothie to give you a calcium and/or iron boost if needed.

Ingredients

1 teaspoon Moringa powder
1 banana
1 cup fresh pineapple chunks
1 /2 cup blueberries
1 orange-peeled
1 cup filtered water or coconut water

Optional

2 tablespoons coconut oil
1/4 avocado – peeled

Directions

1. Add all of the ingredients to your blender.
2. Blend until smooth.
